BEING BETTER IS IN OUR NATURE!

Preserving our Natural Resource

Water is indispensable to life, but it is not unlimited and therefore cannot be wasted. Our essence, our origin and our nature lies in the Gerès mountain range, which is why our primary commitment is to ensure the preservation and equilibrium of the aquifer—pure and mineralised by the rocks and subsoil over thousands of years—through rational management and keeping the natural spaces surrounding it clean and protected.

100% Recyclabe Packaging

At Água do Fastio, we work tirelessly to keep pace with technological innovation, namely by optimising and improving the environmental performance of our packaging by reducing waste. Currently, 100% of our packaging is recyclable, whether it's made from PET (polyethylene terephthalate) or glass.

PET is a recyclable material that is very light and has high circularity potential, even able to be used as a raw material for making new bottles. By 2025, our goal is to use at least 25% recycled PET (rPET) in our packaging.

In the HoReCa industry, we were pioneers in offering our Fastio range in returnable-deposit glass bottles, currently available in three formats (1L, 0.5L and 0.33L).

Raising awareness about recycling
= A shared responsibility

With the goal of making our packaging even more environmentally sustainable, we have actively and continuously interacted with SIGRE (Sistema Integral de Gestão de Resíduos de Embalagens; English translation: Integrated System for Packaging Waste Management) since day one, namely by being part of the Ponto Verde system.

We also share a commitment with the Sector of Mineral and Spring Waters of Portugal to implement the Sistema Depósito Reembolso (SDR; English translation: Refund Deposit System) which will allow for the collection of high-quality (uncontaminated) PET packaging—the exclusive raw material for recycled PET (rPET).

To this end, we widely promote and raise awareness about the importance of recycling among our customers and consumers.

Did you know?

1

Recycling 1 plastic bottle is equivalent to saving the amount of energy needed to power one 60W light bulb for 6 hours.

2

rPET is a high-quality material that can be used in textile products, insulation materials or making new bottles.

3

Recycling 1 plastic bottle consumes 75% less energy than making a bottle from new raw materials.

4

10 recycled plastic bottles can make one pair of pants.

5

Glass can be recycled infinitely, without losing any quality.

Myth or Fact?

The yellow ecoponto recycling bins are just for plastic.

Myth
Fact
Right Incorrect
The yellow ecoponto bins are meant for all packaging materials that contain plastic and metal, such as bottles and jugs of water.
02.

Myth or Fact?

Packaging must be washed before being recycled.

Myth
Fact
Right Incorrect
It’s not necessary to wash packaging since these will undergo various treatments before being made into new materials. However, if you store them at home, they should be fully emptied and rinsed to prevent foul odours.
03.

Myth or Fact?

The screw-top caps are recyclable.

Myth
Fact
Right Incorrect
Screw-top caps can be recycled if they contain metal or plastic, in which case they should be deposited in the yellow ecoponto bin.
04.

Myth or Fact?

The solution to reducing ocean pollution is not to stop using plastic.

Myth
Fact
Right Incorrect
The solution does not involve prohibiting and renouncing the benefits that plastic provides to society, but it does involve educating and raising awareness for more responsible behaviour, promoting circularity and preventing plastic from ending up abandoned in the environment or as ocean waste.
05.

Myth or Fact?

The actions of one person don’t make an impact.

Myth
Fact
Right Incorrect
The more plastic/metal packaging that makes its way to recycling, the greater the amount of packaging that can be used to make new materials. The correct separation of this type of material is fundamental to the success of the entire process, which is why your contribution is indispensable.

Myth or Fact?

Currently, PET is the packaging plastic that is most recycled in Europe.

Myth
Fact
Right Incorrect
PET (polyethylene terephthalate) is a 100% recyclable material and is a valuable resource with high circularity potential. PET bottles can be recycled and reused in multiple cycles and for various purposes, from textile production to the automotive industry. Naturally, they can also be used by the drinks industry to produce new generations of PET bottles.

What we have already achieved

30% reduction in water consumption rates since 2000

35% reduction in average PET bottle weight

18% reduction in waste rates since 2000
